Abstract:
Tells about Waipoua State Forest Reserve reservation (22,600 acres) and then extended in 1920 to include 40,000acres. It was declared govt policy to preserve waipoua forest in its entirety, milling coninued in Waipoua fromn about 1923. However, the first major inroads were made in 1943 when timber was extracted for building boats during WWII. Timber removal contiued until 1952 when a 9105 hectare forest sanctary was established.
