The report on the survey done by the Wildlife Service in the Northland area. Some historical records of the habitats are followed by descriptions of the present habitats - the forests, freshwater habitats, coastal and estuarine, exotic forests, upland game habitats and the exotic plants and wildlife habitats. The freshwater section includes bogs, swamps and gumlands and their value to the bird populations. Several important wetland areas e.g. Poutu Peninsula are described in detail.
