Abstract:
Pasture growth rates from 1964 to 1973 are presented for a site on the South Head of the Kaipara Harbour, Northland. The pasture consisted mainly of perennial ryegrass (#Lolium perenne#) and white and subterranean clover (#Trifolium repens# and # T. subterraneum#). Yields were obtained from grazed pastures cut by a standardised method with movable cages. The mean yield and standard error over 9 years of measurements are given for standard dates at 14-day intervals. The growth pattern had a major peak over the mid October-mid November period, and a small but pronounced autumn peak in April. The mean average annual yield was 12 760 kg DM/ha of which 14% was produced in winter (June, July, and August), 37% in spring, 24% in summer, and 25% in autumn. General climatological data, mean monthly rainfall, and air temperature during the period of pasture measurements are given.(auths)
